Quote of the Month:

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse.  Either is a gain over just staying home.  ~Roderick Haig-Brown, Fisherman's Spring, 1951

What Is Walleye Searchers of MN and Where Do They Fish?
The Walleye Searchers of Minnesota nonprofit fishing club is located in Rochester, MN. Most of our fishing is done on the Mississippi River in Pool 4 between Red Wing and Wabasha. For twenty miles the Mississippi widens to two miles across and forms Lake Pepin. This lake, along with the backwaters above and below it, holds large amounts of walleye and sauger. The backwaters are very scenic and provide numerous sheltered areas to fish in.

Any walleye over five pounds or sauger over three pounds is considered large in this part of the state. There are times when you and your partner can catch and release 50 walleyes in a day. These hot bites most often occur in cold water. The water below the Red Wing dam never freezes so it is possible to fish out of your boat all year long. In these waters just about any kind of presentation can be used while searching for walleyes.
